A bit of our History
Moxons was built by Timothy Moxon a transplanted Englishman, he was friends with the likes of Noel Coward (a British playwright), as well as author Ian Fleming the creator of the master spy, James Bond.
Most of the movies were written and filmed here. Timothy was a flight pilot in the war and did crop dusting here in Jamaica; he played some small parts in the James Bond movies with his small plane until he managed to crash it at the nearby Boscobel air strip.
A couple of the propeller blades of that incident are still part of the existing gate to our parking area as well as Timothy's many colorful stories of those wonderful days gone by...
Timothy then turned the place over to his brother Oliver who was married to the lovely and talented chef Baroness Bonita, together they made it a gourmet Mecca in the 70s 80s and early 90s that lured VIP visitors from near and far. Notably, Dean Martin, Elizabeth Taylor, Henry Kissinger, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Boy George... to mention just a few.
To get here you must fly to Montego Bay, you may rent a car or arrangements can be made to either reserve a seat on a small JUTA bus for the scenic 1½ hour drive, or charter a small plane for the 15 minute flight to the nearby Boscobel air strip.
Upon arrival, we will help you reserve any number of day trip tours available on the island, from swimming with the Dolphins or in the cascading falls of the famous Dunn's River falls, tubing down the mountain - rivers under a canopy of lush Bamboo trees, hiking, rafting and/or horseback riding in the sea, it is all possible.
We encourage our guests to tour the Island and get the full experience of life on our colorful, friendly, music minded island. You can shop, listen to the music, smell the spices, taste and sample the rum, the coffee and the famous Jerk cooking.
